Achilles tendon repair surgery is a type of surgery to fix a damaged Achilles tendon, and it generally involves making an incision in the back of the lower leg and stitching the torn tendon together. In this news post, we’re going to explain how we approached an Achilles tendon repair case that recently came into our headquarters. Read on and see what you apply in your day-to-day.

The Achilles tendon repair was performed under a popliteal and femoral nerve block.

• Popliteal block: One injection of 20 mL of 0.5% ropivacaine into the sciatic nerve sheath in the popliteal fossa.
• Femoral nerve block: Since the surgeon will use a leg tourniquet, an additional femoral nerve block with 10 mL 2% lidocaine was performed for patient comfort throughout the procedure.

Sedation was provided with a propofol target of 1.0 mcg/kg.
