Ultrasound findings

  • Fluid collection underneath the pes anserinus complex, in the pes anserinus bursa

Sagittal view of the pes anserinus complex showing a fluid collection in the bursa.

Coronal view of the pes anserinus complex showing a fluid collection in the bursa.

  • Distal patellar tendinopathy

Ultrasonography of the patellar tendon showing distal tendinopathy.

Diagnosis

The patient was diagnosed with pes anserinus bursitis and patellar tendinopathy. Pes anserinus bursitis, also known as intertendinous bursitis, is an inflammatory condition affecting the bursa located on the medial aspect of the knee, below the medial joint line between the pes anserinus tendons. This pathology typically develops gradually and can be triggered by repetitive stress or trauma. On the other hand, patellar tendinopathy is characterized by anterior knee pain concentrated in the lower region of the patella. The pain is exacerbated by activities that exert strain on the knee extensor muscles.
