The Anesthesia Summit kicked off today in Leuven with a packed room, a sharp agenda, and a clear focus: practical solutions for real-world challenges.

The day opened strong with Dr. Admir Hadzic breaking down strategies for nerve block success—no fluff, just high-impact takeaways. From there, the program addressed critical clinical challenges, including spinal anesthesia in aortic stenosis with Dr. Imré Van Herreweghe, and managing obese patients with OSA with Dr. Daniel John Doyle. Doyle returned later with an update on fluid resuscitation—an eye-opener for anyone rethinking perioperative care.

Post-lunch, the focus shifted to orthopedic and chronic pain management. Dr. Frans-Jozef Vandeputte presented ZOL’s fast-track hip surgery model, followed by insights from Dr. Lucia Balocco and Dr. Stijn Roose on block choices and rehab strategies after total hip arthroplasty. The final stretch tackled chronic pain after joint replacement and PDPH—no topic left untouched.

“There’s no passive learning here,” said Dr. Maria Van den Berge, an attendee from Amsterdam. “Every session today felt directly applicable to what I do in the OR. It’s rare to walk away with this many practical insights in one day.”

With the sun still high at 9 PM, the Summit crowd didn’t go straight to bed. A few even jumped on a quick train to Brussels for a spontaneous dinner in the capital.
