Masterclass Workshop Series

Taking You from Zero to Hero

NYSORA Masterclass courses are developed to provide comprehensive training in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. The courses from Level 1: Essentials to Level 4: Boot-Camps provide all the necessary information to fit practitioners with a wide variety of skills. The delegates can choose from Level 1 to Level 4 to match their abilities and needs. Likewise, taking all four Masterclass courses over time can take a novice delegate “From Zero to Hero”.

The Masterclasses feature NYSORA’s proprietary training system that incorporates didactic lessons with NYSORA’s animations, illustrations, 3-D anatomy courses, hand-eye coordination, hands-on needle-guidance and injection practice on NYSORA Simulators, and more. The courses take delegates from essentials, through operating the ultrasound equipment and optimizing the image to ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia procedures that are the core of regional anesthesia practice.

The Level 4 Masterclass (NYSORA REGIONAL ANESTHESIA BOOT CAMP) allows a small group of participants (3-4) to join NYSORA’s team in our actual clinical practice in Belgium. In this one-of-a-kind first-hand experience, the participants join us in the administration of at least 20 or more ultrasound-guided procedures during the two-day BOOT-CAMP course.

1Masterclass Level 1: Essentials of Ultrasound and Hand-Eye-Coordination

BEST FOR: The Essentials of Ultrasound and Hand-Eye-Coordination workshop is a 4-hour program and the fastest way for beginners to learn ultrasound-guided nerve blocks.

Locations & Dates:

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate how to correctly operate an ultrasound machine.
  2. Demonstrate how to optimize an ultrasound image.
  3. Explain and perform the five essential ultrasound maneuvers.
  4. Identify nerves, fascicles, tendons, blood vessels, bone, muscle and fascial planes with ultrasound.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to guide the needle using both in-plane and out-of-plane approaches in order to reach a specific target.

2Masterclass Level 2: Building Blocks of Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia

BEST FOR: Level-2 is best suited for delegates who have some knowledge on US-guided regional anesthesia, but lack execution confidence, standardized protocols and clear-cut guidance on indications and simplified technique instructions. This workshop builds on the Level-1 and teaches common ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia procedures that are the core of RA practice.

Locations & Dates:

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe how to avoid complications of nerve blocks.
  2. Discuss patient preparation and sterility precautions.
  3. Demonstrate correct transducer position and scanning technique for common upper and lower extremity nerve blocks.
  4. Recognize relevant anatomical structures on ultrasound for common upper (i.e., interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular and axillary brachial plexus blocks) and lower extremity (i.e., fascia iliaca, femoral nerve, popliteal and ankle blocks) blocks.
  5. Describe the prevention and treatment of local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST).

  • “Thank you so much for your assistance last week registering for the Masterclass Level 2, held 2/22-2/23. The course was excellent, and I was able to use my new skills to safely place an ultrasound-guided interscalene block this morning! Previously, I have placed about 100 via nerve stimulator technique, but never with ultrasound. Kudos to your entire team, especially Drs. Ali and Jaffe.”
  • “This was an enjoyable, informative, practical course. I feel comfortable going ahead with putting what I have learned into practice.”
  • “All of the instructors were truly amazing, helpful and passionate about teaching. I came all the way from South Africa for this course and it was well worth the travel. It met my expectations and was great. I will recommend it to everyone!”
  • “All instructors were extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge.”

3Masterclass Level 3: Advanced Ultrasound-guided Techniques

BEST FOR: Delegates who already are practicing some ultrasound-guided nerve block procedures but need authoritative, standardized instructions to gain additional execution confidence, and learn new techniques. This Masterclass workshop builds on the Level-2 program and expands the workshop to include the truncal blocks and some more advanced ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia techniques.

Locations & Dates:

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate correct transducer position and scanning technique for motor sparing blocks.
  2. Demonstrate correct transducer position and scanning technique for thoracic and abdominal fascial plane blocks.
  3. Recognize relevant anatomical structures on ultrasound for thoracic and abdominal fascial planes (i.e., transversus abdominis plane, quadratus lumborum, erector spinae, pectoralis, serratus plane, intercostal, paravertebral, and IPACK blocks).
  4. Recognize relevant anatomical structures on ultrasound for thoracic and abdominal fascial planes (i.e., shoulder, adductor canal, femoral triangle, genicular nerves, and infiltration between the popliteal artery and capsule of the knee (IPACK) blocks).
  5. Describe the potential complications of fascial plane blocks.

4Masterclass Level 4: Orthopedic Regional Anesthesia Boot Camp

BEST FOR: This unique Masterclass Boot camp program offers the most intensive course in a clinical setting. It helps transfer the knowledge from workshops to clinical practice by following the NYSORA team in a busy orthopedic practice. This educational opportunity is designed for participants seeking the most practical and standardized acquisition of skills and confidence in ultrasound-guided orthopedic regional anesthesia. Equally suited for delegates seeking confirmation of their own practice, improve organization, and wanting to learn the leadership skills required to organize an orthopedic regional anesthesia service and improve patient flow.
