Friends and colleagues have been asking if I’ve been busy lately, as I’ve taken a step back from the scene for a few weeks. My answer is clear: I’ve never been busier having a GREAT TIME! There’s so much happening at NYSORA these days, so expect some updates weekly. Our team is ecstatic with one accomplishment after another. Since formally becoming a publisher, NYSORA has released two bestselling books on Amazon: ‘Nerve Blocks’ and ‘Difficult IV Access’. Next week, we’re excited to launch the ‘Anesthesiology Review’—a comprehensive guide with 750 pages and 1,800 questions, providing the most updated study material with detailed answers and rationales. https://lnkd.in/e7GQiz7U
We’re also thrilled to announce the opening of the NYSORA New York Academy, an uber-boutique workshop and seminar location offering breathtaking views of New York from every angle, ensuring an unforgettable experience. I look forward to meeting colleagues from around the world at one of our upcoming seminars and workshops at the Academy. https://lnkd.in/eq8DmuPm a great weekend, everyone!

I have a somewhat weird question. After arrival to the PACU after a spinal anesthesia, when could patients safely start to drink and eat again? The rule at our hospital is that they can eat once they can lift their behind from the bed. But where does that rule come from? Any evidence behind this? What does other hospital practice? I am mainly referring to elective hip and knee replacements in spinal anesthesia. So when can they safely start eating?

THE HIDDEN COST OF ELECTRIC CARS:
Beneath the surface of every electric car there is a 900-pound battery filled with globally sourced minerals like lithium, cobalt, and bauxite. The extraction and processing of these minerals for EV manufacturing is associated with a complex trail of human rights and environmental challenges. This raises a question: Are the environmental benefits of electric vehicles overshadowed by the ethical and ecological costs of mineral mining? While the potential of EVs in combating climate change is undeniable, do they truly represent a sustainable alternative or merely shift the burden? Are we driving around on the cobalt equivalent of Congo blood diamonds? Thoughts?
Here’s an informative article in The Washington Post on the subject: https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/09/19/electric-cars-better-environment-fossil-fuels/
