Ultrasound Techniques

Equipment for ultrasound-guided nerve blocks

The following equipment is required for ultrasound peripheral nerve blocks:

  • Portable ultrasound machine (Ideally with a composite imaging for better resolution and smoother image).
  • 8-12 MHz (multifrequency) linear probe (this probe alone will suffice for 90% of practical nerve blocks)
Regional anesthesia tray customized for US-nerve blocks:
  1. Prep-solution and gauze packs
  2. Nerve stimulator
  3. Syringes with local anesthetic
  4. Injection pressure monitor
  5. Needle of appropriate length
  6. Sterile gel for the ultrasound probe
  7. Ruler

    Additional items not pictured: Sterile “Tegaderm” or sleeve for ultrasound probe, sterile gloves.
