Lumbar Paravertebral (Psoas Compartment) Block

This block is mainly indicated for the management of pain associated with unilateral lower limb surgery. Neuraxial block may well be more effective in producing lower extremity block, but there are patients in whom avoidance of bilateral lower extremity block or the sympathectomy accompanying neuraxial block is desirable [1]. It may also be used in patients on anticoagulation therapy where neuraxial block is contraindicated.
