Prescriber's Guidelines - (con't)

These guidelines were developed for the use by Stony Brook University Hospital’s Acute Pain Service.

                                     BOLUS FOR EPIDURALS

If patient < 60yrs old and catheter below T6:
0.25% Bupivacaine 8-10cc with 0.5mg PF Hydromorphone

If patient > 60yrs old or has baseline systolic blood pressure less than 100 mmHg and catheter below T6:
0.125% Bupivacaine 8-10 cc with 0.5mg PF Hydromorphone

If catheter is above T6, decrease bolus volume to 5cc.

Patients >80yrs old or EXTREMELY hypotensive: Bolus with 0.0625% Bupivacaine 8-10cc and 0.25mg Hydromorphone PF
