These guidelines were developed for the use by Stony Brook University
Hospital’s Acute Pain Service.
PCA--PRURITIS
1. Benadryl 25-50mg IV/PO Q 4-6h prn
Maximum 5mg/kg/day divided every 4-6 hours
2. Hydroxyzine 25-50mg PO/IM Q6 hours PRN. Consider changing narcotics at this
step.
3. Consider Naloxone drip @ 1-2 micrograms/min in SICU, MICU, or PICU
telemetry
4. Consider decadron. *MUST DISCUSS WITH ATTENDING AND PRIMARY SERVICE!!
