These guidelines were developed for the use by Stony Brook University Hospital’s Acute Pain Service.

                                     SEDATION GUIDELINES
                                                     OAAS

0 = Does not respond to noxious stimuli
1 = Does not respond to mild prodding/shaking
2 = Responds only after mild prodding/shaking
3 = Responds only after name is called loudly/repeatedly
4 = Lethargic; responds to name called in normal tones
5 = Alert, responds readily to name spoken in normal tones
