INTERSTERNOCLEIDOMASTIOD APPROACH TO THE BRACHIAL PLEXUS
By Kayser Enneking, MD
University of Florida
INTERSTERNOCLEIDOMASTIOD BRACHIAL PLEXUS BLOCK
Advantages
•Simplified surface landmarks.
•Provides blockade for entire upper extremity because of compact location of the
plexus.
•Less risk of epidural, subarachnoid, or intervertebral artery injection than
interscalene.
•Less risk of pneumothorax than classic supraclavicular
approach.
•Approach facilitates continuous technique.
