NYSORA - The New York School of Regional Anesthesia: Fellowship Description and Requirements Fellowship Description and Requirements ================================================================================ vpatel on 19/03/2009 18:29:00 Learn about our Fellowship Program in Regional Anesthesiology, what the requirements are for enrollment, and how to download an application. St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center (NYSORA) Regional Anesthesia Fellowship Thank you for your interest in our Regional Anesthesia Fellowship. Our program is designed to do two things: First, produce graduates that are experts in all of the peripheral nerve blocks for upper and lower limb, as well as other blocks such as thoracic paravertebral, ilioinguinal, TAP block, etc. Fellows receive training in both nerve-stimulator and ultrasound-guided techniques. Secondly, we strongly emphasize clinical research and as such fellows spend at least 2 days a week as non-clinical, designing and conducting clinical studies that are continually being generated. Fellows have the opportunity to conduct workshops at our annual NYSORA meeting in December, which is attended by anesthesiologists from around the world, and at our other NYSORA workshops and symposiums held both here in New York and abroad. In addition, other opportunities such as the presentation of abstracts and workshops at other meetings (e.g. the ASRA annual spring meeting, the ASA annual meeting) are typically part of the experience. Teaching of residents is also in important part of the program for our fellows. Ultimately, our goal is to have our fellows go on to academic programs and further the field of regional anesthesia by passing their knowledge and skills to the next generation. We train one fellow each year, with an anticipated start date of early August (after the written board examinations). The deadline for receipt of completed applications is July 31 of the preceding year. All applicants must be eligible to hold either a NY state license or a limited permit. If you have done your medical education outside the United States, you would be required to hold a valid ECFMG certificate. Please check on their website to determine if you meet (or will be able to meet) their criteria for a certificate. Note that this does entail completing both Part I and Part II (CK and CS) of the USMLE examinations. Their website is www.ecfmg.org. If you are interested in applying for our fellowship, please complete a hard copy of the fellowship application (download here) and mail it back with the following documents: 1. a current CV 2. a personal statement (1 page maximum) 3. copies of your in-training scores to date 4. three (3) letters of reference from current supervisors Best of luck and I hope to hear from you soon.
